Actually only recently, since about 1979, has accurate world temperatures been collected. Before that time, we had no idea of the temperatures in many parts of the world and certainly not in much of the oceans. In addition, modern developments have skwed the U.S. temperatures by changing the surroundings of long-time weather stations.
